Ocker O’Connor re-elected Mayor

Ocker’s father was granted a block of land as a returned soldier in the post war years when the West was being opened up for cattle and sheep.

“They went into a ballot after the war and drew a block. It was called Wongalea on the banks of the Barwon and they ran about ten thousand merino sheep on it.

“They had a Santa Gertrudis cattle stud there as well.

“They sold out in 1984 and retired to Dubbo but it wasn’t the best move because they didn’t last long after that, going from doing everything every day to sitting on a verandah in Dubbo.
