Call of the West brings David home

The call of the West is a powerful force, with many former residents of Bourke saying they never really leave the town behind.
David Dart is one of those who at the age of 85 has come back to his home town for a trip down memory lane.
David and his family moved to Bourke from Sydney in 1948 when his father was posted here as the headmaster of the Central School, on the site where 2WEB now stands.
David and his family lived in the house next door on the site of the Childcare Centre.
“My father Roland was Principal of the school from 1948-49, so we made the trek out here when the road was unsealed gravel from Nevertire,” David said.
