The latest Business Conditions Survey conducted by the NSW Business Chamber, has called for more stimulus projects to bolster economic activity in drought affected areas of NSW.
The survey highlights that many businesses have been doing it tough, with the drought heavily impacting the retail and services sectors.
“The impact of this drought cannot be overstated and is continuing to hurt businesses right across the state,” said Western NSW Business Chamber Regional Manager Vicki Seccombe.
“Our businesses in the Far West and Orana reported some of the worst business conditions in the state, with one business noting it was the hardest climate that they have operated in 24 years. Unfortunately, that sentiment is widespread,” she said.
Business operators in Bourke agreed with the findings, with some saying the economic conditions were the worst they’d experienced in their lifetime.
Dave Randall from Bourke Betta Home Living said he could not recall when business had been as tough as it was today.
