Bourke does a lot with little — Awards Judge

Bourke Shire Council’s commitment to its community was the stand-out quality that gave it the winning edge in the A R Bluett Memorial Award last week.

Bourke won the award for Best Rural Council in a competition regarded as the pinnacle of achievement for local councils.

President of the Bluett Awards Trustees Les McMahon said what impressed the judges during their tour of the Shire was the relationship between staff, councillors and the community.

“Bourke is a small council covering an enormous area with a small population, but it has achieved much in a big way,” Mr McMahon said.
