Councillor Barry Hollman has been re-elected unopposed as Mayor of the Bourke Shire Council for a fifth year. And Councillor Lachlan Ford was re-elected unopposed a Deputy Mayor
It has been a hectic, and at times tumultuous role for Mayor Hollman, who has steered Bourke Council through a devastating drought, economic downturn, and a pandemic.
He has also seized opportunities, helping to secure funding for many projects, including the Wanaaring road, rebuilding the Bourke swimming pool, improvements to local sporting infrastructure and a significant upgrade to the Bourke CBD.
Mayor Hollman’s success has been shared by retiring General Manager Ross Earl, who signed off on a long and productive career just as Barry Hollman was being elected to a new one-year term.
The pandemic forced the state government to delay council elections for 12 months, extending the term of current councillors until September 2021.
Because the mayors were elected two years ago, elections were held this week for a further twelve-month term. For Mayor Hollman, this is his third successive election.
