Bollon Hotel burns down after being engulfed by fire

Residents have been left shocked at the destruction of Bollon’s only pub – the central meeting point for the entire community.

Residents of a tiny town in southwest Queensland are coming to grips with the loss of the community’s only pub after it was destroyed by a massive fire on Saturday.

There’s little left of the hotel on Main Street in Bollon, midway between Cunnamulla and St George on the Balonne Highway, following the tragic incident.

Emergency services were alerted to the fire about 7.30pm and arrived at the scene to find the pub engulfed in flames.

Noone was harmed or missing in the blaze and firefighters containing the fire over several hours, with many people praising the actions of emergency crews.

A police spokesman said investigations into the cause of the fire were ongoing.

The Queensland Fire Department’s investigation unit was on the scene on Sunday. […]
