Bourke Mayor Lachlan Ford reckons there is plenty to be happy about and proud about in the Bourke Shire.

There have been several critical incidents around Bourke in the last month, including home invasions involving knives and a tragic fatal car accident that happened on Weir Road two weeks ago.

And although  Councillor Ford acknowledged the impact and sadness of these events, he stressed that the good outweighs the bad when living in Bourke.

“None of us want these sorts of incidents occurring and the tragedy of it drags us all down,” the Mayor said.

“We particularly need to give the people closely involved, like the police, a real pat on the back as they do great work in the community.

“Recent incidents put a tremendous strain on the police and their families. When car accidents are involved some of these officer’s lives will be on hold for a couple of years while it’s investigated. It also impacts people who need to clean up these events like tow truck drivers and council workers. No one wants to see this sort of thing. […]
