Bourke Spar Supermarket rebuild is underway!

After months of delays due to design problems, Bourke’s Spar Supermarket has finally started construction this week.
When the old Spar building was destroyed by fire on the 27th of December 2021, the long process of determining the cause of the blaze and processing the insurance claim began.
In June this year, the development application for rebuilding the premises was approved by the Bourke Shire Council, but it has taken until now to approve the design drawings and begin construction.
Owner of Spar Supermarket, Chandra Kollipara, said that despite the long wait, he is happy that the construction process has finally begun.
“There has been a lot involved in getting it to this stage,” Chandra said, “which I cannot divulge entirely.
“But that process has now been completed, and construction started this week on Wednesday, which I am pleased about – it is a weight lifted from my shoulders.
“The holdup has been because of the design issue; hydraulic design held us up because of the water flow and pressure in town.
