Bre Shire shines in 2024
As Brewarrina Shire Council winds down for a Christmas break, General Manager David Kirby has been reflecting on the year of 2024.
“The start of 2024 was about completing a lot of our flood damage work from 2022,” Mr Kirby said.
“We still had a lot of roads closed from the 2022/2023 flood event, and we were trying to catch up on a lot of that backlog work in the first part of 2024.
“That was critical for us, because we have a major capital works program to get through also.”
Success in obtaining funding for larger projects, such as the new PCYC, and continuation of the Brewarrina Main Street project were also on Mr Kirby’s list of highlights, with the community reaction to projects making it even more worthwhile.
“Working on those projects with community, and then seeing them come to fruition has probably been my biggest highlight,” he said.
“Watching people’s excitement around those projects and looking at their ideas and what they want for their communities is really important.
“It’s been a community effort all year, right across the board. We are always looking at ways in which we can contribute to building a brighter future not just for Brewarrina, but across all our communities. […]
