Brewarrina mourns the loss of Angelo Pippos
Brewarrina Shire Council is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Councillor Angelo Pippos, who tragically passed away on Friday afternoon 13 December 2024.
The entire Brewarrina community is in shock and grief over the loss of Councillor Pippos, and his loss has been felt right throughout the western region.
78-year-old Angelo Pippos was a dedicated member of the community, known for his commitment and leadership in serving the people of Brewarrina Shire.
He served as a Councillor for 50 years including 12 years as Mayor and 15 years as Deputy Mayor, and his passion for Brewarrina did not waver.
Angelo’s most proud and beloved achievement was the running of the world-famous Café Deluxe, first opened by his father in 1927. It was the centrepiece of Brewarrina’s main street for almost nine decades, where Angelo kept the old wood fired stove burning until 2014.
Brewarrina’s Mayor Tom Stanton expressed his profound sadness at the sudden loss of his colleague Councillor Pippos and extended his heartfelt condolences to Angelo’s family.
“Angelo was not only a valued member of our Council, but also a true friend and a guiding light for our community,” Councillor Stanton said.
“His tireless dedication to improving the lives of our residents and his passion for our shire will never be forgotten.
“On behalf of the Council and the entire community, I extend my deepest sympathies to his beloved wife, Margie, and the entire Pippos family during this heartbreaking time.”
Brewarrina Shire Council General Manager David Kirby also shared his condolences and reflected on Angelo’s significant contributions to the Shire. […]
