Ellie Samuelsson and Erin Cavanagh are Bourke’s top cooks

Bourke’s Butchery’s Big Cook-off, held at the Port of Bourke Hotel on Saturday, had mouths watering as contestants vied for the title of best Camp Oven and best Smoked Meat Cook.

This year two women took the top honours – Ellie Samuelsson as Grand Champion Camp Oven Cook and Erin Cavanagh as Grand Champion Smoker Cook.

Organiser, Ernie Delany from Bourke’s Butchery said the second Smoking and Camp Oven Cook Off brought a large crowd of at least 250 people, 14 smoking cooks and 9 camp oven cooks.

The event involves cooking different kinds of meat; chicken, lamb, pork, and beef in a camp oven, or on a pellet smoker or woodfire stove which is heated up, so the smoke cooks the meat.
