Bourke has lost a familiar and valuable citizen, with Dr Robert Reed retiring from his role at Ochre Health.

Dr Reed said it was time for him to return to the ‘calmer waters’ of old age and his family in Victoria, and leaves Bourke after serving seven years as a very popular GP in Bourke and Brewarrina.

He made the decision while he was holidaying in Victoria over the Christmas break, saying the holiday reminded him of the value of familiar friends and family.

“When I was leaving Bourke on December 5 last year little did I know it was the end of my working life in Bourke,” he wrote in his letter of resignation.

“Unfortunately, I stayed away too long and enjoyed myself too much in my old haunts with friends and family that I came to the realisation that I wished to stay here for the future.

“I was very happy and settled in Bourke and loved working and living rurally and remotely.

“I wouldn’t have missed the last seven years or so in Brewarrina and Bourke. It was a great experience and a great time, and I must thank Tracey Coyne and Vivian Slack-Smith, for being the best two practice managers in Australia, without a doubt.”
