Flying Doctor responds to flooding

As communities across far western New South Wales recover from flooding or anticipate further flooding, the Royal Flying Doctor Service remains a crucial presence, offering coordinated healthcare support and emergency services.

Dr Shannon Nott, Chief Medical Officer for the RFDS (South Eastern Section), said the organisation had been working closely with emergency partners to ensure ongoing care for flood-affected communities like Wanaaring, Enngonia, Hungerford and Weilmoringle.

“We’ve had to deal with a number of emerging disasters over the past few years, especially the floods that are experienced across the region,” Dr Nott said.

The RFDS is a standing member of various Local Emergency Management Committees and maintains close partnerships with agencies such as the State Emergency Service (SES) to monitor and respond to changing conditions.

“It’s an evolving situation as we look at the flood waters, as well as looking at recommendations from the SES,” Dr Nott said.

“We’re continuing to work with the SES and a number of other agencies to provide support services to Wanaaring and other places affected by the recent flood waters.”

In addition to emergency response efforts, the RFDS is also working to ensure continuity of healthcare for residents cut off or otherwise impacted by the flooding. […]
