Grief as teenager dies at Bourke

Bourke and Brewarrina are in turmoil after the death of a teenager following a police pursuit that will be subject to an independent police review.

Three other teens were injured in the crash after police deployed tyre spikes to stop the vehicle – allegedly stolen in Blayney – just west of Bourke on the Weir Road.

The car crashed and rolled at about 1.30am last Friday after a police pursuit between Coolabah to Bourke.

A 17-year-old died at the scene and three other boys were taken to hospital, including a 14-year-old, who was flown to Sydney in a serious condition.

On Saturday two teenagers appeared in court charged after the pursuit. Upon their release from hospital about 10.30am on Saturday (1 March), they were arrested and taken to Dubbo Police Station.

The younger boy was charged with two counts of aggravated break and enter dwelling in company intend steal, aggravated break and enter dwelling in company, and other charges relating to the stolen vehicle.

The older boy was charged with be carried in conveyance taken without consent of owner.
