Just Don’t Mention Christmas!
Singer songwriter Kevin Sullivan – once a police officer in Bourke – loves Christmas and everything about it.
So why is he promoting his popular song called “Just Don’t Mention Christmas?”
Kevin has spent the last seven years touring the country and playing music with his wife and young family. A couple of years ago he released a song called Just Don’t Mention Christmas, a tongue-in-cheek poke at the ‘woke’ movement.
Kevin said the song has a deceiving title, because it’s really about how much he loves Christmas.
“It came about when my daughter was at preschool, and as part of this crazy woke world we now live in, they wouldn’t mention the word ‘Christmas’, so I said to my wife, I’m going to write a song about this, which I did,” Kevin said.
“More recently, watching that craziness down in Melbourne with Myer not opening the Christmas display, I thought, we’ve got to do something about it so, I’m sending this song around again.
“Make no mistake, I’m on the side of Christmas! My family loves it!”
Kevin reckons Australia is a very welcoming and multicultural country and his song focuses on the meaning of the season which he describes as a respectful time of year, no matter what you believe.
“There’s a line in the song that says, ‘it’s not just religion, it’s tradition,’ and it’s about love and peace. These are great qualities for Australia and the world,” he said.
Just Don’t Mention Christmas was recorded in Nashville where Kevin sought a big orchestral, angelic choir feel for the song which features ‘every instrument you can mention.’ […]
