It’s been a frustrating year for the organisers of the Peter Simmonds Memorial Pro Rodeo, with rain and floods twice washing out the event, but a new date has been set and hopes are high that Bourke will once again be on the rodeo calendar.

Spokesman and rodeo rider, Tye Simmons, said Saturday October 14 was the date for the big rodeo event, and it was ‘set in stone’.

“That date is 23 years to the day since the last Bourke rodeo and Uncle Pete was president of the rodeo committee back then, so it’s very special to us to lock that date in,” Tye said.

“We’re really excited about it and hopefully by then all the floodwaters would have gone and everyone will be able to get in and out of Bourke with no problems.

“The good thing is that it will give us more time to get organised and make the event even bigger and better than what we had planned for 2022.
