Michael Amos – an outstanding Bourke Citizen of 2023

If anyone in the Bourke district is worthy of an award this year, it was Bourke Rural Fire Service Group Captain Michael Amos.

Michael was one of eight recipients of the Australian Fire Service Medals in 2023

Captain Amos was awarded the medal in the June long weekend King’s Birthday Honours list in recognition of his dedication and hard work and for distinguished service by an Australian fire service member.

It is the highest Rural Fire Service award available.

Michael joined the North Bourke Bushfire Brigade in 1995 and, in 1996, was elected as Captain until 1997 when the Brigade was renamed Bourke Headquarters Rural Fire Brigade. In 2001, he was elected as Group Captain for the Bourke District.

During his 27 years of service to the NSW Rural Fire Service, Michael has also been Brigade President for 26 years, Brigade Treasurer for four years, Brigade Secretary for one year, and Brigade Permit Officer since 2015, a position he still holds today. […]
