Parkes electorate delivers big NO vote to The Voice

Voters in the electorate of Parkes encompassing almost all of western NSW have delivered a huge rebuttal of the Voice to parliament – with almost 80% of voters saying NO to the Voice proposal.

Many reasons have been put forward for this rejection, but it seems to boil down to a lack of information on how the Voice would work and the fact that voters did not trust government with the details.

Local Parkes MP, Mark Coulton said the defeat of the referendum highlighted a divide, not just between the Yes and No voters, but a divide between city and country voters, and said that Labor did not listen to the voices of people in rural communities.[…]
