The inspiring volunteer effort that has literally saved lives during the current flood event includes people from across the state, the country and overseas.
As well as the enormous efforts of the local SES and RFS, teams from Port Macquarie Marine Rescue have been deployed to Brewarrina as part of the flood response over the past six weeks.
Four members from Marine Rescue are on a constant rotation of fly-in fly-out, not only to Bre but to the communities of Walgett, Collarenebri, Lightning Ridge, Nyngan and Parkes.
Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Stacey Tannos thanked the volunteers for their hard work in helping communities affected by the State’s worst inland flooding in a generation.
“Their commitment is well beyond what is required as a volunteer, but they just keep stepping up to the plate,” Ms Tannos said.
“My sincere thanks to all members and staff who have given up their time to head out on deployment and provide help and comfort to those so badly affected by these devastating floods.”
