Program for Indigenous ADF recruits opens at Bre
The Australian Defence Force has launched an initiative to encourage First Nations people to apply for jobs.
Following the success of the Rural Fire Service and its indigenous mitigation team program in Brewarrina and other regional communities, the ADF has initiated a program to highlight the opportunities on offer.
Brewarrina’s Local Aboriginal Lands Council was one of the organisations chosen by the ADF recruiting team for Indigenous candidates. Bre LALC CEO, John Reidy, said many young people didn’t look to the Australian Defence Force as an option.
“We had a lot of success in the Rural Fire Service once people knew there were career pathways open to them through things like the Indigenous Mitigation team, and so we are hoping this program with the Defence Force will also encourage people to look at a career in the Army, Navy or Air Force in the future,” Mr Reidy said.
