Ronald Simpson is Bre’s Australia Day Ambassador

Homegrown jockey Ronald Simpson has been announced as the 2024 Australia Day Ambassador for Brewarrina.

General Manager of Brewarrina Shire Council David Kirby said he was very proud to announce that one of Brewarrina’s hometown heroes will be representing the Australia Day Council in Bre on Australia Day – 26th January 2024.

“Ronald is rapidly emerging as one of the premier jockeys in the Central West and Western regions and his journey has been nothing short of thrilling,” Mr Kirby said.

Originally from Brewarrina, Ronald’s foray into racing commenced at the age of 15, upon his return from school in Newcastle.

Ronald began work at the Dubbo Turf Club where he learnt the ropes of the racing industry, mastering the art of riding racehorses and gaining proficiency in the fundamentals on the racecourse.

Embarking on his apprenticeship and navigating through trials to earn the right to race, Ronald encountered a setback just two months into his budding career when he fell off a horse—an unfortunate yet common experience for jockeys.[…]
