Various Bourke agencies have come together to design a full program of Youth activities over the school holidays from Saturday 12 April to Friday 25th April.
School’s out tomorrow and all the action starts this Saturday with a Sacred Sports Day at the Bourke PCYC and Davidson Oval from 9am until 3pm. If you’re looking for the Easter chocolates, there’s also an Easter Egg Hunt at the Bourke Public Library from 9am.
Throughout the holidays there will also be Easer Art and Craft at CatholicCare and the PCYC, fishing and cultural days and athletics day and a PCYC Disco and Karaoke – see program below.
Commander of Central Darling Police District, Superintendent Gerard Lawson said that all agencies had coordinated two weeks of holiday activities, including sports days, Lego at the Library, activities at the PCYC
Supt Lawson said it’s important that kids put their phones and other devices down and get out and involved in some fun activities.
“We are trying to provide some alternatives for kids to come out and enjoy the school holidays in the community,” he said.
“We wouldn’t be able to run this program without the support of all the agencies in town – including CatholicCare, Maranguka, Mission Australia, BACHS, the Bourke Shire Council, Bourke PCYC, Bourke High School and others.
“We’ve also got some specialist Youth Engagement Officers coming out from Sydney to help with these activities between Easter and Anzac Day.
Supt Lawson said that the Youth activities will complement all the other Easter Festival activities that are happening in Bourke.
“There are also other Easter activities in Brewarrina, Walgett and Lightning Ridge – every major town in the district across the Easter week.
