Schools celebrate NAIDOC Week

Schools across Bourke, Brewarrina, Lightning Ridge and Walgett wrapped up NAIDOC celebrations last week with cultural activities, stories, dance, and community meals

The Bourke Public School had a jam-packed week, with the young students learning the Dreaming story of the Rainbow Serpent and other traditional stories and being immersed in art and craft to illustrate the stories throughout the week, with support from staff at Thiyamali.

On Friday, it was an open invitation to the community to share NAIDOC celebrations with the students.

The day got off to a flying start with a Colour Run, before hosting a community lunch with guests entertained by the school choir and a performance by the primary dance group.

The lunch was also an opportunity for the school to say thank you and farewell to long serving staff member, Scott Parnaby.

Mr Parnaby has served the school as a volunteer for 20 years, with 18 years on the P and C, part of the AECG for seven years as well as seven years as the school’s Senior Leader Engagement Officer. […]
