The adventures of Stevie — a happy ending

Everyone loves a story with a happy ending, and in Bourke last week, the tale of Stevie the blind Swiss Shepherd is a heart-warming tale that had an unlikely happy ending.

Stevie is a much-loved, blind eight-year-old white Swiss Shepherd, who disappeared from Mitchell Street in Bourke on June 19.

He was found on July 7 after going missing for almost three weeks before he was re-united with his owner, Harmony Starchild.

Harmony noticed he was gone from the yard and within a few minutes of his disappearance received several phone calls that he had been spotted wandering the streets.

But then, the trail went cold, and the weeks passed.

Harmony feared the worst, until last week, when Stevie was spotted at a remote location downstream of Bourke near the river on Darling Farms, emaciated, exhausted, covered in burrs, but alive.

“I had given up hope of finding him alive,” Harmony said.

“I was heartbroken, because Stevie is more than just a dog - he is a family member who has helped me and my children through some very dark times.[…]
