The Grinch hits Bourke

There’s been a special Christmas visitor in Bourke lately, with the elusive Grinch paying a visit to many community businesses and showing his smug, green face at several popular locations around town.

Special ‘friend’ of the Grinch, Sam Canty, said the unexpected arrival of the popular character in Bourke this Christmas season, was all about lifting community spirits.

“My partner Jacinta Smith is a very festive person and had a costume laying around and we thought it would be a bit of fun to do something for the community, especially for the kids,” Sam said.

“We ended up getting a mask as well and then started making some videos. We swap between filming and ‘accompanying’ the Grinch around town. At the start I wasn’t that keen, but after a while it became fun, and all the locals really got into it.”

The Bourke Grinch has made his mark on Facebook and Tik Tok, while venturing around Bourke’s businesses.

His first stop was the local butcher shop, and he has been causing havoc from there, scoring himself several ‘free’ souvenirs along the way. He pops in when businesses are quiet, but not always. […]
