The Walgett community had the opportunity to thank those who helped during the recent flood at a ‘thank you’ function at the Walgett Swimming Pool on Saturday.

An estimated 200 residents attended and enjoyed a relaxing time with music from Ducky Dennis and a steak sandwich cooked to perfection by the community services staff as they took in the beautiful surroundings of the pool facility.

Walgett Shire Deputy Mayor, Councillor Greg Rummery, said council wanted to recognize the efforts of everyone formally.

Councillor Rummery said it was humbling to see so many people come together, sacrificing their time to volunteer and help make the Walgett community a safe and resilient place.

“There are many people in the community whose dedication, commitment and selfless efforts have not gone unnoticed during this event, and these quiet achievers have brought our community closer,” he said.

Walgett Shire Council General Manager, Mike Urquhart, who is also Chair of the Local Emergency Management Committee said he was proud of how the combat agencies once again rallied around.
