Walgett Council calls for pool staff to ensure reopening
Walgett residents can plan for pre-Christmas swimming as the final repairs and finishing touches to the Walgett swimming pool are carried out, according to the NSW Premier.
As part of a trip to Walgett, Brewarrina and Bourke, NSW Premier Chris Minns and Minister for Regional NSW Tara Moriarty visited the Walgett pool to see the repair works that are in their final stages.
The Walgett pool is expected to open before Christmas, thanks to a one-off grant of $375,000 provided by the NSW Government to Walgett Shire Council for temporary repairs.
Once the pool reopens, all lanes will be available to swimmers.
The Walgett swimming pool is more than 60 years old and as the only community pool in the town it provides important social and health benefits for the region.
The grant offered a short-term solution for this summer, enabling repairs to, patching for water leaks, refurbishment of the sand filtration system, and safety improvements.
Replacement of the pool will be determined by Walgett Shire Council in 2024.[…]
