WALGETT COUNCIL GENERAL MANAGER DISMISSED

It’s been a tumultuous week on Walgett Shire Council, with a new Acting General Manager appointed on Tuesday to oversee council business remotely.

Hugh Percy, who was appointed administrator at Walgett Shire after the whole council was sacked in 2004, will be the new temporary General Manager for a period of up to 12 months.

Mr Percy, who is based in Queanbeyan, was appointed Acting General Manager at an extraordinary meeting of council after the previous General Manager, Mike Urquhart was dismissed at last week’s ordinary council meeting.

Mr Urquhart was dismissed after five of the nine Walgett Shire councillors voted in support of a motion that he no longer continue in the role.

The five councillors who supported Mr Urquhart’s dismissal were Daniel Walford, Alf Seaton, Jason Ramien, Colin Hundy and Michael Cooke.

The four remaining councillors, who did not support the call for Mr Urquhart’s dismissal, threatened to resign over the incident, but at a special council meeting on Tuesday, they decided to continue in their roles. […]
