Walgett make a community splash
The Walgett Community Working Party literally made a big splash on Wednesday 11 December, holding a community event at the pool, which attracted hundreds of people.
In conjunction with the Department of Primary Industries & Regional Development and Walgett Shire Council, the Big Splash evening was held at the Walgett pool. It was a winner with the Walgett public and attracted plenty of interest.
The Big Splash was possibly one of the largest events ever at Walgett Pool with about 350 people, including dozens of excited children, attending the event which offered a free sausage sizzle and live music, along with free gate entry all afternoon.
Throughout the year, the Walgett Community Working Party has held monthly curry nights, which have become popular with the Walgett community to build connection – and share delicious food.
Chair of the Walgett Community Working Party, Garry Trindall said the Big Splash was a seasonal change that made sense.
“Every month this year, we’ve been having a curry night but that’s a bit hard in the middle of summer, it’s not quite the right weather,” Mr Trindall said. “We came up with the Big Splash and the result was amazing. […]
